County Championship Preview: Kent
Kent struggled to get off the mark last year but fought back to mid-table can they go even better this year?
Kent also had an odd year just like Essex. They couldn’t buy a win to start with but had the most in-form opener at the start of last season. Their England opener Zak Crawley looked like he could be dropped from the team for poor performance while he was still in England’s first team plans.
They tried 26 players last year in an attempt to force some wins but at the back-end of the season they kicked on a dragged themselves to midtable. Ben Compton was the star batter for them last season with 1193 runs at 54.22 but with a drop of 9 to the average of the next batter they didn’t have anyone else his level.
But they really struggled with the Bowling as their best was Overseas Matt Henry with 12 wickets at 18 but he has just signed for fellow Division 1 side Somerset. They have tempted Michael Hogan away from Retirement at Glamorgan for one last year in hopes they can bolster the Attack after letting Matt Milnes go to relegated Yorkshire. Kent appear to be perfect for any fantasy team with a collection of scoring batters but for actual performance the lack of quality bowlers hurts them. Bringing in George Linde again gives another Spinning option and one who can Bat more.
